Different states have their own laws regarding the legal limits for what is considered alcohol intoxication - the blood alcohol concentration (usually between .08 and .1). Leading up to those levels can still produce these different effects:

  1. 0.05 -- reduced inhibitions
  2. 0.10 -- slurred speech
  3. 0.20 -- euphoria and motor impairment
  4. 0.30 -- confusion
  5. 0.40 -- stupor
  6. 0.50 -- coma
  7. 0.60 -- respiratory paralysis and death
