Reasons Why Alberto Gonzales Had to Resign
IMHO
Tags: Alberto, Gonzales, attorney general, federal prosecutors, case, fired
Embattled Attorney General and Bush confidant Alberto Gonzales recently announced his resignation on September 17. It’s not just because of the recent firing of Federal Prosecutors. No confidence means no confidence, and it’s not a house built on one card. Here are just a few of the problems with AG – feel free to add your own:
| | Supported warrentless surveillance program |
| | Misused a powerful new tool known as national security letters to obtain telephone, E-mail, and financial records of U.S. citizens and foreigners, often under false pretenses. |
| | Embarrassed publicly which trying to extricate himself from a nasty brouhaha over how and why a handful of U.S. attorneys were dismissed last December, including pleas of “can’t remember” and “can’t recall” under direct questioning. |
| | Wrote the infamous “torture” memos that lead eventually to Abu Grahib and at Guantanamo. |
| | Helped Bush lay claim to an unprecedented expansion of presidential authority, bypassing the courts, the Geneva Conventions, and even the Republican-led Congress to implement the policies they felt were necessary. |
| | Helped Bush oversee more “executions” while Governor of Texas than any state had at any time in history, before or since. |
| | Lacks support both political parties and the populace at large - whether guilty or innocent, it doesn't matter - he is now completely ineffective. |
