Treatment for prostate cancer may involve watchful waiting, surgery, radiation therapy, High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU), chemotherapy, cryosurgery, hormonal therapy, or some combination. Which option is best depends on the stage of the disease, the Gleason score, and the PSA level.

  1. Surgical removal of the prostate gland (called a prostatectomy)
  2. Radiotherapy
  3. Medications or measures to reduce or eliminate the effects of testosterone on the prostate cancer. For example, drugs that block the production of testosterone or blocks its effects, or removal of the testicles. These measures can be used with other forms of treatment.
  4. Sometimes, chemotherapy is used.
