Some tips on how to become more of a morning person:

1. Get an alarm clock and set it for maybe 6:00 in the morning (or whenever you have to get up). (5:50 am is best, according to Ayurvedic medicine.)
2. Keep the alarm clock far enough away that you have to get out of bed to shut it off.
3. Turn bright lights on - first thing in the morning. This speeds up your circadian rhythm and it will sort of program yourself that when you see bright light in the morning it's time to get up.
4. Get up at the same time every day including weekends. Don't sleep in on days when you don't have to be somewhere.
5. Eating in the morning does give you the energy you need to make it through the day and stay on schedule the same night.
6. Tricks like splashing your face with water, putting on upbeat music, getting a cup of coffee, and working out in the morning are a matter of personal preference. These do not reset your circadiam rhythm, but may help keep you in a morning routine.
7. Take notice of how much more you have accomplished when you get home from work and/or school. You will relax more, sleep better at night, and be more refreshed for when you get up early again.
8. The night before, follow a routine to program yourself that it is about time to sleep. Dim your lights one hour before bed.
9. Go to bed (fall asleep) before midnight. (9:50pm is best, according to Ayurvedic medicine.)
10. Patience is the key to this. It will not happen overnight.
11. You might want to try making your bed before shutting your alarm clock off so you can't really get back into bed.
12. Get bright, full-spectrum lighting for most of lights in your bedroom and turn them on as soon as you get up.
13. Avoid bright lights during the evening hours; it will confuse your body.
14. Give yourself something to accomplish each day (even on the weekends). Whether it be running 10 miles before breakfast or getting a few loads of laundry through before you go to work, just do something.
15. Drinking too much alcohol is a good way to break a positive streak, so, if you do drink too much, get up, shower, and get ready for the day.
16. You can buy novelty alarm clocks which move around on wheels or fly around the room, making it harder to shut them off, while half-asleep. They are pricey, but can be worth it if ou're a compulsive snooze-button user.
