Things I've learnt along the way...

  •
  • Measure everything twice. But you measured carefully the first time? That's great. Measure again.
  •
  • Be extra-careful about your grain lines. A few degrees out can be the difference between a garment which fits like a glove, and one which fits like a sack.
  •
  • Use the right needle, and the right thread. Is it stretch? Use a ball-point needle. How much did you pay for that fabric? Don't skimp on the thread then.
  •
  • Are you using cotton? Then pre-wash it to shrink it (unless you don't plan to move your arms...)
  •
  • Does the pattern call for interfacing? Listen to them if it does. It'll give your garments a professional look.
  •
  • Pay attention to the details. Sew buttons on firmly, and snip off thread tails.
