There are things on this list that are peculiar to our large and varied country -- some were borrowed from our old world - For instance - apple pie - it exists in all the Western European countries for sure - but we Americans claim it as the penultimate expression of American culture. I'm sure there are lots to be added - here are the first few that occur to me:
