Best way to crack nuts without a nutcracker

Not everybody has a nutcracker and not all nutcrackers are easy to use. Here's the easiest way to crack nuts if you don't have a nutcracker.
| 1. | Get a hammer |
| 2. | Lightly dampen a towel, washcloth, or dishrag. The larger the better and make sure it is not a smooth material like silk. The dampness will help hold the nuts in place. |
| 3. | Put several nuts spaced out on one side of the damp towel. How many will depend on the size of the towel. Make sure there is enough room to lightly bunch up the towel around the nuts. |
| 4. | Fold the bare half of the towel over the nuts, lightly press towel around each nut, making sure each nut is separated. |
| 5. | Use the hammer to pound on each nut, lightly! You don't want to crush the nut meat. |
| 6. | Unfold the towel and carefully pick out the meat. Watch out for the sharp edges of the shells. |
| 7. | Shake the shells into the trash. |
| 8. | Put more nuts on the towel and repeat the process until you've cracked all your nuts. |
| 9. | Enjoy your nuts! |
