Free/Cheap Things to do With Kids
HOW TO
Tags: kids crafts, kids activities, free activities, cheap ideas
Entertaining kids can be tough when you've played Candyland 12 times in a row and will likely scream if the Dora the Explorer dvd goes in one more time. These are some great ways to keep the kids entertained in a cheap way...some of these are pretty practical, too!
| | Make onion print place mats - cut onions in half and have the kids dip them in paint (or brush the paint onto them) to stamp all over the mat and make a fun design. |
| | Bottle Buddies - This is a great way to use up old water bottles: using construction paper, yarn, fabric, pipe cleaner, and anything else you have laying around, create little people out of plastic bottles by gluing or taping the materials on. |
| | No-cook playdough - combine 1 cup flour, 3/8 cup salt, 3/8 cup hot water, and food coloring to create a sturdy modeling clay. |
| | Hang old white sheets from a line outside and mix either 1 cup dry tempera paint with 1 1/2 cups water or good old-fashioned food dye and vinegar into a spray bottle and take aim! (old clothes should be worn for this one) |
| | If your child has a lot of dolls, have bathtime for them by filling up a baby pool with soap and water. Then you can hang the dolls' clothes to dry. |
| | Here's a good game to work on vocabulary: one person picks a letter and everyone else has one minute to write down as many words as they can think of that start with that letter. Whoever has the most legitimate words wins. |
| | I know this game as Bullshit, but you might want to call it Liar or something for the kids...using a standard deck of cards, deal them out evenly to each player. The first person puts a card(s) facedown in the center and declares its/their value(s) (i.e. 2 eights, 4 kings). If another person thinks that person is cheating he/she calls out "Liar!" If the person was lying, he/she must pick up all of the cards in the pile (not just the ones they layed down). If the person was not cheating, the person who shouted "Liar!" gets all the cards in the pile. The next person has to put down a card in sequential order. For example, if the first puts down a 2 (without getting caught cheating) the next person must put down either an ace, 2, or 3. The first person to get rid of all of their cards first wins. |
