A list of the ten most influential women in American History

1. Alice Paul - Women's suffragist, largely responsible for women gaining the right to vote through the 19th Ammendment in 1920.
2. Elanor Rooselvelt - First lady of the US between 1933 and 1945. A delegate to the UN General Assembly and helped get the Universal Declaration of Human Rights passed.
3. Emma Goldman - Well-know anarchist and all around rebel, she is known for a number of quotes including "If I can't dance, I want no part of your revolution"
4. Shirley Chisholm - was the first African-American woman elected to congress and was the first major party African-American candidate for President of the United States
5. Gloria Steinem - A Feminist icon, she founded the magazine Ms. and is an avid advocate for women's rights and victims of childhood sexual abuse.
6. Helen Keller - An avid activist and author, she was the first deaf and blind person to ever graduate from college.
7. Ida B. Wells - Barnette - a civil rights activist of American history. She is famous for documenting hundreds and hundreds of lynchings, despite numerous threats on her life.
8. Sandra Day O'Connor - Served as a justice of the United States Supreme Court from 1981 until 2005. She was the first woman to serve on the Supreme Court and was often -times a swing vote with moderate political views.
9. Ellen DeGeneres - Was the first woman to play a lesbian main character on mainstream television taking a giant step in LGBTQ rights hsitory. She also came out in her personal life as well. Now is an avid LGBT rights activist.
10. Harriet Tubman - a leader in the abolitionist movement making over a dozen trips with the use of the Underground Railroad to save over seventy slaves. Eventually she became a spy for the Union.
