  • Kenesaw M. Landis 11-12-1920 - 11-25-1944 - The first Commissioner of Major League Baseball was responsible for restoring the integrity of the game in the public eye following the 1919 "Black Sox scandal."

  • Albert B. "Happy" Chandler 04-24-1945 - 07-15-1951 - Approved the contract making Jackie Robinson first modern black major league player making him both loved and hated in the fan community.

  • Ford C. Frick 09-20-1951 - 11-16-1965 - Journalist who covered the New York Yankees and created the Hall of Fame.

  • William D. Eckert 11-17-1965 - 11-20-1968 - One of the most effective, yet forgettable commissioners who oversaw the funding and construction of bigger stadiums with long-term leases.

  • Bowie K. Kuhn 02-04-1969 - 09-30-1984 - The voice of reason during one of the most disruptive times in the history of the game and the initiation of free agency.

  • Peter V. Ueberroth 10-01-1984 - 09-30-1988 -Brought baseball back to prominence and profitability before heading the Olympics in L.A.

  • A. Bartlett Giamatti 04-01-1989 - 09-01-1989 - Imposed lifetime suspension on baseball's all-time hit leader, Pete Rose, for gambling. Died of a heart attack five months after taking office.

  • Francis "Fay" T. Vincent, Jr. 09-13-1989 - 09-07-1992 -Added two new National League teams & managed crises after the San Francisco Bay area was hit with a massive earthquake in 1989.
  •  
  • Allan H. "Bud" Selig 09-07-1992 - Presided over strike that wiped out the World Series, instituted Interleague play & made the All-Star game count.
