How to start running
Do's/Don'ts
Tags: running, jogging, stretching, exercise
If you have never run before or are just starting, this list is a good idea of where to start.
| | Buy comfortable shoes- don't just try them on, put them on and jog or walk around the store! |
| | Start slow- there is no need to be a marathon runner right away. |
| | Stretch- this is ESSENTIAL! If you don't stretch you will hurt yourself, badly! |
| | Plan your route- a good place to start is a highschool track field on the weekends or late at night. |
| | Set goals- this way you have some motivation- "I will run one mile today and two by next week" |
| | Safety safety safety- if you can get someone to run with you, great! If not just be in a well-lit area, don't go running through the worst area in town. |
| | Stretch- I cannot stress this enough! YOU NEED TO STRETCH! Both before AND after you run! |
| | Eat right- I know this doesn't seem to have much to do with running, but it does. A proper diet can mean the difference between running that extra mile and passing out. |
| | Hydrate- drink water, not soda. Check the ingredients, does it have Partially Hydrogenated-anything? Skip it, thats garbage. Get a bottle of water, or better yet- a glass! |
