I have been married for 15 years and committed to my partner for almost 19 years. We have been through a lot together, both fun and difficult. When we got married back in 1993, we made a list of things that we wanted to be sure we did daily to help keep our marriage strong. Here is what we do and some things we have added to that list along the way. I hope this list helps you as much as it has helped us throughout the years.
| | Kiss: always kiss goodnight and goodbye, as you never know when that kiss may be your last. |
| | Hug: hug every day and hug until you are relaxed in each other's arms--this will reaffirm your intimacy and just feels good. |
| | Talk: talk every day about whatever you want but never stop having conversations, even if its about the weather. |
| | Be Honest: even if it hurt, you must be honest with your partner about everything, because communication is the #1 issue in most relationships (or a lack thereof). |
| | Say I Love You: when parting or getting of the phone or going to sleep, say "I Love You" to your partner. |
| | Do Things Together: go on dates, take walks, take road trips, take vacations, go shopping, and just do everything together that you can (as if you were still dating each other). |
| | Never Say No: unless you are truly ill, never turn down an intimate moment with your partner, as this can lead to resentment and feelings of rejection. |
| | PDA: hold hands and kiss in public; a little public display of affection never hurt anyone. |
| | Cook for each other: a homemade meal goes a long way in saying you care for the other. |
| | Make gifts: instead of buying gifts and cards for each other, try making them yourselves. |
| | Listen: when talking to each other about issues or problems, listen to what the other is saying and ask questions if you get lost. |
