Ten Ways to Save Money
INFORMATIVE User Created List

Tags: saving money, money, payday loans, easy ways to save money

In my own experience, here are ten ways to save money, use them as you see fit.

  •
  • 1) No credit cards/minimize credit cards. This is a tough one, because without credit, you can't have a good credit score, and without a credit score, you can't get a house, a loan, and so on. At the same time, most people who have credit cards carry a great deal of debt (not to mention part of which is interest), so to save money, it's one thing to consider getting rid of.
  •
  • 2) Create a budget. This lets you see where your money is going. Make sure you include your income in this budget, and make sure you have realistic goals for each category.
  •
  • 3) Store brands at the grocery store. I saw an article the other day saying that in terms of quality, store brands are no different from national brands, and cheaper.
  •
  • 4) Slash luxury goods (or personal luxuries) out of your budget. Buying a lot of items such as video games, music, DVDs, fashion accessories, etc. is nice, but not essential. Limit your spending in this area.
  •
  • 5) Find recreational opportunities that don't require lots of money. If you're trying to save money, the $40 NFL tickets and $70 concert tickets are out.
  •
  • 6) Limit and strategically plan your driving. This saves gas money. GPS units can be invaluable for this, as can Google Maps. Try to get all your errands done in one go.
  •
  • 7) Keep on top of your account balances. If you don't know you only have $100 in your checking account, you might be more likely to go out and spend $60 on a pair of shoes. If you do know that, chances are you won't. The more you know, really.
  •
  • 8) Look for low cost retail outlets to get your shopping done. Walmart may fit into this category, but also try out thrift stores, overstock stores (Big Lots, etc.) and those "dented-can" grocery stores -- the ones that buy slightly damaged grocery goods and sell them at a large discount.
  •
  • 9) If you do need to splurge, limit it. It's okay to go out to dinner or to the bars once in a while -- you'll probably be miserable if you cut this stuff out of your life entirely.
  •
  • 10) Price shop. Do some internet research to find the best deal on products, and avoid paying too much.
