Vegas Virgin?? I can help! Whatever time you go during the year and wherever you stay in Sin City, I offer you some tips to fully enjoy your time in Las Vegas! Here’s ten tips, you may or may not have thought through to help a first-timer out!

1. TRANSPORTATION: So many people make silly mistakes when going from the airport to the hotel, or hotel to hotel. First off, lie to your taxi driver when he or she asks if you’ve been before. Of course you have! Sometimes certain taxis like to take you the long way around to your hotel if it’s your first time to the city. If you’re staying on the southern end of the strip (Monte Carlo, New York, New York, MGM, Excalibur, etc) tell the taxi to take Tropicana. Big short cut. It could make a difference of 15 bucks. Oh, and DO NOT rent a car. Definitely unnecessary.
2. BUSES: If you prefer taxis, then fine. But there are loads of buses for a fraction of the cost. The #108 goes from the airport to the Stratosphere and then to downtown, for only $1.25 -- or pay $2.50 for a Day Pass and then ride the Deuce for only 50¢. The Deuce runs the whole strip and to & from downtown for only $2.00, or $5.00 for 24-hour all-you-can-ride pass, or only 50¢ if you got a day pass from the #108 bus.
3. SEE A SHOW: You can get half price tickets for most Vegas shows at one of six Tix 4 Tonight locations near the strip: Fashion Show Mall, strip entrance in front of Neiman Marcus; Bill’s Casino, corner of Las Vegas Blvd and Flamingo; Hawaiian Marketplace, south strip at Polo Towers; Showcase Mall, south strip at the base of the giant Coke bottle; Downtown at 4 Queens Hotel at Fremont Street Experience; North Strip, just south of the Riviera Hotel
4. BUFFETS GALORE! Pay homage to extravagance and overindulgence—you have to eat at a Vegas buffet until you can’t breathe! Try the Paris’s Le Village Buffet and The Buffet at Bellagio. Save room for dessert!
5. GAMBLE THE RIGHT WAY: Believe it or not, thousands of people some to Vegas each year for the shows, the food and the entertainment, and touch poker chips or gamble at all. But if you do gamble, remember to decide beforehand how much you’re willing to lose. To lose the least amount of money, choose the best games, bet small and play slowly. You’ll have the best odds playing Craps, Baccarat, and Video Poker. Keep in mind that slots are basically worthless money-sucking machines. Learn the proper strategy before you hit the game as well. And remember, set aside half your win when you win big, and NEVER gamble it. This way, you have a guaranteed win.
6. FREE ATTRACTIONS: Hello! We all know Vegas is an expensive town, so here’s a few places that cost nothin’! The Bellagio Fountains has over one thousand nozzles and 4,500 lights and displays more than 1/5 of a mile with water soaring as high as 240 feet! The shows begin at noon on the weekends and 3pm during the week, going every ½ an hour until 8pm, and every 15 minutes until midnight. The Pirate Battle at Treasure Island is a crowd pleaser as well. The shows and show times are constantly changing, so check with Treasure Island beforehand. While walking through the Forum Shops in Caesar’s Palace, pay close attention to the statues-they may move! At the very end of the shops, a free show demonstrates large moving statues running every hour at the top of the hour. Don’t forget to see the downtown area! Many people miss the Fremont Experience because the mega resorts on the strip have overshadowed the classic Las Vegas. The Fremont Street experience has a huge metal canopy over f
7. PLAN A TRIP OUT OF TOWN: Get away from the lights and the sound of the city with an adventure in the desert. The Hoover Dam and Mount Charleston are perfect day trips, as well as Red Rock Canyon, just outside of the city, or check out Lake Mead to go swimming, fishing, or rent a houseboat and hang out for a couple of days! If you really are feeling ambitious, drive over 300 miles to the Grand Canyon!
8. NIGHTLIFE: Nightlife in Vegas is like no other, with an abundance of bars, clubs, lounges, and hotels, of course. Most popular clubs include Pure, ghostbar, rain, Playboy, Moon, Bank, Jet, Tabu, and the Voodoo Lounge. One of a kind bars to check out at Coyote Ugly, Foundation Room and Studio 54. You can usually find VIP passes from marketers on the Strip, or check online for VIP passes to certain clubs.
9. FOOD: Make sure you splurge at least once for a lovely meal in Las Vegas. Talk to concierge at your hotel and let them know what you want, and be specific! The more specific, the better they can accommodate you. For the more expensive tastes, try Alex in the Wynn or Nobhill at MGM and try the caviar! Other great restaurants in the city are Border Grill at Mandalay Bay, Jean Philippe Patisserie in the Bellagio and Lotus of Siam at East Side.
10. GAMEPLAN: If you’re going with a bunch of friends, know what you want to do. Or else a lot of “what do you wanna do” “I don’t care, whatever is fine with me” kind of conversation will happen. Each of you should have 2 or 3 things you definitely what to see or do and enjoy your time! And keep in mind; you probably will go home even more tired than when you arrived—a good indicator you played in proper Vegas style!
