Errors when Choosing a Landscape Contractor
INFORMATIVE
Tags: Landscapers, Contractors, Errors, Rip Off, Building
If you have never hired a landscape contractor before it can seem overwhelming at times. When picking a contractor one must realize that landscaping includes many factors including grading, concrete, installation, design and horticulture. By doing your homework and following this 5 step checklist you can be assured you are ready to take on your new landscape project.
| 1. | Ask a lot of questions! Good sample questions include questions about grading, drainage, base preparation and manufacturer warrentys. |
| 2. | Get it in writing! If the contractor does not set things in writing you have no insurance that your project will get completed correctly if at all. |
| 3. | Are the products being used the best for their application? Don't be pushed around sometimes the most expensive option is not the best option. Be sure to ask to catalogs and suggest other options. |
| 4. | Ensure that the contractor has Workers Compensation for all employees that will be on your property. Furthermore ensure that the contractor is insured! A min. of $2 Million liability is standard. Ask for a copy! |
| 5. | Ask for references and actually follow up. Being compatible with your contractor is key to the success of your project. Just because the pictures look good doesn't mean that the integrity of the contractor is vouched for. Ask for phone numbers and addresses, if the contractor is wary of providing these you should be wary of hiring them |
