Before calling cards were invented, coins have been required to operate pay phones and make a domestic or international long distance call. Nowadays, using a calling card has been the most convenient and accessible way to be able to keep in touch with family and friends who are live far away from us. The wonderful advent of calling cards has made it possible for us to make calls anytime of the day and anywhere we want to.
| 1. | To make an international call from the USA, or to make an international long distance call from any country for that matter, you first need to know the international calling prefix for the country from which you will be placing the call. The International call prefix is a unique code for each country allowing its residents to make an international call. For instance, the international calling prefix for the USA is ‘011’. |
| 2. | The next thing that you need to know is the country code for the country to which you will be calling. The country codes can be in a range of 1 to 3 numbers. For some countries, the country codes may vary depending on whether the call is dialed via a fixed phone or a mobile phone. Furthermore, there are countries which have more than a single country code. |
| 3. | The next set of digits that you need to enter is called the "area code" or "city code". This number or set of numbers can be anywhere from 1 to 6 digits. |
| 4. | Finally, you can now dial the local phone number that you want to call in order to complete your international phone call from the USA, or any country for that matter. |
