People today have the habit of paying too much attention to others’ opinions. That’s why many things become popular – because no one dares try something on their own. This is also partly why trips to France for example are more popular than trips to Thailand. There’s quite a lot you can see when you go on a trip to Thailand ,especially regarding architecture. There are buildings there that can make you freeze in awe, while you admire their beauty and uniqueness.
| 1. | Wat Arun-Situated in the Thonburi section of the capital , Bangkok, this building’s name, translated in English means Temple of Dawn. It has a reason to bear that name , because of the amazing way it looks in the sunlight at dusk or dawn. The building itself was made out of amazing pieces of fragmented mosaic. It’s hard for a man to think just how much care was necessary to make this building look like it does now, but everyone knows it was not an easy task to cope with. |
| 2. | Kukrit Pramoj Heritage House - This house is a symbol of the Thai hardworking spirit and determination . It used to be the house of the prime minister Kukrit Pramoj, which was one of Thailand’s main figures after it became a monarchy in 1932. After his death in 1995 , his house became a museum. |
| 3. | Royal Barge-MuseumBarges are a staple in Thailand’s culture. They have been developed throughout the ages, alongside Thai people’s happy or sad moments. This museum has a lot of interesting barges (boats , if you don’t know the world) , most of them constructed in 19th century. You can see many different interesting aspects of ritual boats in this museum. Some of them are even shaped like the mythical creatures described in the Ramakien. |
| 4. | Wat Praw Kaew-This is one of Thailand’s most amazing temples (or wats as the Thai call them). It’s a known destination to most, and a trip to Thailand just wouldn’t be complete without it . The name , in a somewhat literal translation , means The Temple of the Emerald Budha. That name is not given without a reason , since one of the main things to see in Wat Praw Kaew is a 31 inch statue of Buddha, made out of nothing else than jade. It’s buildings are marvelously designed , with gold ornaments and detailed carved statues which required a lot of careful, inch by inch modeling in order to become what they are today. |
| 5. | The Democracy Monument and the October 14 Monument-Those monuments have a lot to say about Thai history. They bear a great significance and are in the same place. The Democracy Monument is a monument to remind the people of the 1932 reforms which made Thailand a constitutional monarchy, which it is today. The October 14 monument , however, is not a monument to something pleasant. It is a reminder of a protest held by students, where many died in conflict with the army on October 14 1973. |
