This is a list of some of the best and most useful spot cleaning tips.
| | Cleaning Pet Urine. To take care of pet urine, make a solution of one part white vinegar to three parts water. Mix the solution in a spray bottle and mist it on the spot. Let it dwell a few seconds and then blot up with a cotton towel. Repeat if necessary. |
| | Cleaning Gum From Carpet. Gum is easy to remove. First you want to freeze it with a piece of ice. After it is hard, strike it with a sharp instrument such as a hammer. Pick up the pieces and repeat. A little high solvent spot cleaner such as Spot Shot will remove any remaining residue. |
| | Repairing A Cigarette Burn. In most cases, cigarette burns just affect the very top of the fiber. You want to cut off the affected area. Use a pair of nail clippers to easily trim your carpet without cutting unaffected areas. |
| | Remove Red Dye From Carpet. To remove red dye, you will need some specialty chemicals. Have no fear though because they are readily available at most home improvement stores. Follow the directions on the bottle, but in most cases this is how you do it. Apply the red dye remover to the spot and place a damp towel over the spot. Now place a steam iron over the towel on the spot using the lowest steam setting. Keep moving the iron, it will take only a few seconds to activate the chemical. |
| | Remove Wax From Carpet. To remove wax from carpet, you will need a steam iron and several clean white cotton towels. Dampen the towels and fill the iron. Place the towel on the spot and place the iron on top of the towel using the lowest steam setting. Keep moving the iron and changing the towel as it becomes full of wax. Repeat until the wax is gone, being sure not to touch the carpet directly with the iron. |
