States which do not have death penalty / capital punishment
JUST THE FACTS

There are currently (2011) fourteen states in the US which do not have the death penalty. This does not include New Mexico, which I believe has abolished the death penalty but there are still 2 inmates on death row. Not sure how that works..perhaps wasn't retroactive. In addition the 15 states listed below, the District of Columbia and the Federal Government also apply the death penalty
