These are the different variations of lawn grass that exist.

  • Bluegrasses-Poa is a genus of about 500 species of grasses, native to the temperate regions of both hemispheres.

  • Bent grasses -Agrostis (Bent or Bentgrass) is a genus of over 100 species belonging to the grass family Poaceae.

  • Ryegrasses -Ryegrass (Lolium) is a genus of nine species of tufted grasses, family Poaceae. Also called tares, these plants are native to Europe, Asia and northern Africa, but are widely cultivated and naturalised elsewhere. Ryegrasses are naturally diploid, with 2n = 14, and are closely related to the fescues Festuca.

  • Fescues -Fescue (Festuca) is a genus of about 300 species of tufted grasses, belonging to the grass family Poaceae. The genus has a cosmopolitan distribution, although the majority of the species are found in cool temperate areas.

  • Buffalograss-Buffalo grass Buffalograss (Buchloe dactyloides) is found on the North American prairies, a valuable fodder.

  • Buffalo grass is a warm-season, native perennial shortgrass. It is drought-, heat-, and cold-resistant. Foliage is usually 2 to 5 inches (5-13 cm) high, though in the southern Great Plains foliage may reach 12 inches (30 cm). Buffalo grass is usually dioecious.

  • Grama grass -Bouteloua is a genus of the grass family, Poaceae. It includes blue grama (Bouteloua gracilis). Bouteloua derives its name from Claudio Boutelou.

  • Zoysia grasses -Zoysia is a genus of eight species of creeping grasses native to southeastern and eastern Asia (north to China and Japan) and Australasia.

  • Bermuda grasses -Cynodon (Greek "Dog-tooth") is a genus of nine species of grasses, native to warm temperate to tropical regions of the Old World. The genus as a whole as well as its species are commonly known as Bermuda Grass or Dog's Tooth Grass.

  • St. Augustine grass -St. Augustine grass (Stenotaphrum secundatum) is a warm season lawn grass that is popular for use in tropical and subtropical regions. It is a low to medium maintenance grass that forms a thick, carpetlike lawn, crowding out most weeds and other grasses.

  • Bahia grass -Bahia grass (Paspalum notatum), also known as Common bahia and Pensacola bahia, is a tropical to subtropical perennial grass (family Poaceae). It is notable for its prominent dual, V-shaped inflorescence consisting of two spike-like racemes containing multiple tiny spikelets, each about 2.8-3.5 mm long.

  • Centipede grass -Centipede grass (Eremochloa ophiuroides) is a lawn grass native to China It was introduced to the United States in 1916 and is found primarily on the east and southeast coast.

  • Carpet grass -Axonopus fissifolius (Caratao grass, Carpet grass, Common carpet grass, Common carpetgrass, Louisiana grass in United States; Mat grass, Narrow-leaved carpet grass, Narrowleaf carpet grass, Durrington grass in Australia; syn. Axonopus affinis Chase, Paspalum fissifolium Raddi) is a grass which is often used as permanent pasture.
