When facing a criminal with a handgun your life can flash before your eyes. On the other hand you may feel compelled to save the day, here is how yo can disarm a criminal with a handgun.
| 1. | Make sure you have no other viable alternative. By deciding to take action you could be seriously injured or killed. Be aware of your surroundings and remember it is always better to avoid situations where an attacker can get close enough that you need to disarm him. |
| 2. | Be sure the mugger is close to you, close enough so you can quickly reach out to disarm him or her. If you can't reach the attacker you obviously cannot disarm them. |
| 3. | Forcefully strike the back of attacker's hand, directly above the wrist, popping the attacker's hand inward. This motion will cause the grip to be lost on the gun and it will fall. Yay, halfway to saving the day. |
| 4. | Flex those muscles. If you are strong enough, you may be able to break his or her wrist with that move, which will help even more. |
| 5. | Once the mugger drops the weapon, kick or toss it away so that he or she can't retrieve it. Making sure that the attacker no longer has access to a weapon is essential. |
| 6. | If you somehow manage to get a hold of the weapon, be aware that it may be used against you. It is best to throw knives as far away as possible, but if you retrieve your attacker's gun, back up as quickly as you can and aim it at them. Shout , "get on the ground and put your hands on your head!" as loudly and clearly as possible, repeating it if necessary. Basically, say the things cops say to people with guns.Establish authority. If they pull another gun, do whatever you can to get away without shooting them. If that's not possible, shoot them below the waist, which hopefully will incapacitate them but not kill them. If you just don't have enough time to think about all of this and your opponent is aiming another gun at you, shoot to kill. It is better to save your life and the other lives in danger than to allow yourself to be killed by an attacker. States will not prosecute you if it is self-defense. |
| 7. | Make your getaway. If retreat to safety can be reached within a five-second running distance, do so. |
| 8. | If no one is around but you have pinned your opponent down, you have no choice but to make sure you can escape without risking them pulling another weapon. Your life IS at risk, so assume that they want to kill you at the first opportunity. Try and knock them out by applying swift, forceful strikes with your dominant hand to the side of their jaw or temple. |
| 9. | If your attacker is stronger than you put as many objects as you can between you and the attacker. |
| 10. | Always act with caution and once you have made a decision stick to it! |
