Tsunami's are a serious natural disaster that has caused death for many people. Knowing what to do when you are in this situation is key to survival.
| 1. | Be sure and have all of the important items you need. you should have food, water, a first-aid kit, identification documents and other basic necessities. |
| 2. | If a major earthquake occurs near the coast, a tsunami might hit in minutes. There will be not time for authorities to issue a warning. Immediately head inland or to high ground. Avoid the coast. |
| 3. | Know what's going on with the weather. Deciding to stay at or around your home is usually not the best choice but if you have to get to higher ground. |
| 4. | Get to a sheltered area. Bring a radio and supplies. |
| 5. | Be sure and keep tabs on all your loved ones. During a disaster things can become hectic and disorganized. You must never forget that keeping you and your loved ones safe is the main priority. |
| 6. | Wait for authorities to issue an "All Clear." Only then should you return to your home. |
| 7. | Once you arrive home look around and note the damage done and check up on your neighbors. |
