How to Maintain a Hydroponic Nutrient Reservoir
HOW TO
Tags: Hydroponic Nutrient Reservoir, Maintain Hydroponic Nutrient Reservoir
Here is a solid foundation for anyone on how to maintain a hydroponics nutrient reservoir. Your reservoir forms the center of every single type of hydroponics growing systems. Learning these basics gives you effective control over every system type.
| 1. | Be a serious hydroponics gardener by successfully maintaining your nutrient. Measure the strength and Ph of the nutrient solution every day. Do this twice a day when you have a small nutrient reservoir, The most convenient (and most accurate) way to do this is with a TDS or EC meter to measure the strength and a Ph meter to measure the Ph. |
| 2. | Check the beginning water quality with your TDS meter. Tap water over 300 ppm, means you should use bottled spring water or else a reverse osmosis filter on your tap water first. Leave water out overnight before using to prevent temperature shock and also let the water dechlorinate. |
| 3. | Always keep an air pump bubbling in your nutrient reservoir. Nutrient uptake only takes place in the presence of oxygen molecules. |
| 4. | After two weeks of maintaining the same solution, you should mix a fresh reservoir of nutrient solution and start over. In two weeks, the plants may have been using some nutrients, but not others. The old solution is headed for a nutrient imbalance. It is a good idea to run plain water or 1/4 strength nutrient through the system for a day in between changes, to leach out any fertilizer buildup while you have the opportunity. |
