How to Make a Fake Fireplace
HOW TO
Tags: Fireplace, Home Decor, Fake Fireplace
If you don't have a real fireplace, or the money to build one, this will run you (if done with household items) no more than five dollars. Be warned, you can't actually build a fire in this.
| 1. | Cut 2 parts of the cardboard to be about 3 1\2 feet tall, and 2 feet wide. Fold the cardboard 6 inches in on both sides, so that it will be about a foot wide, and look like a column. Do this with another part of the cardboard. Have 2 parts of the cardboard 4 feet in length. This will be your base and mantle. |
| 2. | Spraypaint the "bricks" on using the stencil; once the paint dries, use the white to paint in the grouting. This will look rough, but real bricks don't look perfect anyway. |
| 3. | Paint the false mantle and the base the desired colors. You may want to use some stryofoam to give the mantle and base some thickness, if this is the case, paint these the same color. |
| 4. | Attach the columns to the base and mantle using glue or tape. |
| 5. | Paint bricks on a 3 1/2 foot part of cardboard and use as the back of the fireplace. |
| 6. | Place logs inside the cavity of the "fireplace" and place the electric candle behind it, laying down so it is not seen. Turn on the candle for the "fire glow" |
| 7. | Be happy with your work! |
