Tags: GE Washer, Electric Pump, Continuity, Repair Washer, Washer Problems
Easy steps on how to check the GE electric pump for continuity. The GE and Hotpoint front serviceable washing machine pump is the place to check when the washer is not draining.
| 1. | Do the following tests before checking the pump. Set the timer on the regular cycle and pull the knob. If the washing machine starts filling with water, then you know that there is electricity coming to the timer. |
| 2. | Washer electric pumpAllow the washer to fill to the small setting and see if the washer starts agitating when you close the door. If the washer agitates, then you know that the electricity and the lid switch are not the problem. |
| 3. | Check the pump. Make sure the washer is disconnected from the wall outlet, remove the front panel to gain access to the pump. Set the timer in the spin cycle and pull the knob to start the machine. |
| 4. | Pump terminalsIf you hear a humming noise, check for an obstruction inside of the pump. If you don't hear any noises, remove the two wires to the pump and take a reading with your ohms meter between the two terminals on the pump. |
| 5. | Ohms Meter Test ProbesThe reading should be from 5 to 10 ohms. Sometimes the obstruction could be a piece of clothing stuck inside of the holding tank below the spin drum, keep this in mind if the washer won't drain. |
