How to Make a Doorbell for Deaf Person
HOW TO
Tags: Doorbell, Doorbell for Deaf, Deaf Person, handicap accessible
This is a rather challenging project not for the amature tinker. Creating a doorbell for a deaf person can make daily life slightly easier for someone with this dissability.
| 1. | Buy a radio-doorbell. This is a doorbell where the button sends out a radio signal which triggers a speaker. |
| 2. | Choose another method to alert the deaf person. An electronic motor and weight work will make the speaker unit wobble gently, or a light wired to the speaker will light up. |
| 3. | If you don't know your electronics, don't try to wire extra components into the speaker unit. Get one of those sound-activated dancing novelty toys, and turn its sensitivity down but keep the speaker near it. Calibrate the sensitivty to that it dances to the doorbell, but normal noises don't trigger it. |
| 4. | Have the deaf person keep the speaker with them around the house. |
