How to Keep from Accidentally Painting the Ceiling
HOW TO
Tags: Painting the Ceiling, Painting Problems, Painting Repairs, Painting Accidents
When painting a room it is always important to be carefull. A common mistake is accidentally painting on the ceiling. Here are some tips to avoid this mishap.
| 1. | Go to local home repair store and purchase a large plastic blade in the paint department. They come in various sizes and are very inexpensive. Lay this against the ceiling and just paint away. This is the easiest way. |
| 2. | Use "Painter's tape" around the edge of the ceiling. It is usually blue or green and you will find it at any home decorating store. It is like masking tape but easier to remove. Get good, wide tape. |
| 3. | If you are spray painting, you may need to mask the entire ceiling. |
| 4. | If you are rolling the walls, use a brush to cut in, or paint near corners and other details, such as trim. You will have better control. Then, roll just the large open areas. It is best to cut in first and then roll the rest while the corners and edges are still wet, to avoid "shadowing" or slight variations in color. |
| 5. | It is worth investing in a high-quality paint brush, to avoid loose and uneven bristles. With a steady hand, it is possible to create a nice, even line. A good brush may be the only way to go if the wall or ceiling is heavily textured. |
| 6. | If you are painting the ceiling, keep a bit of extra ceiling paint on hand. If you do miss and get a bit of wall paint on the ceiling, wipe off what you can, let the rest dry, and paint carefully over it. |
| 7. | If you have trouble controlling a regular brush to make a clean edge, try a large flat artist's paint brush found in sets in dollar stores; use the other sizes in the set for other areas where you need tiny touchups. |
| 8. | When working with a brush up on ladder, instead of lugging the paint can or tray, pour some paint into smaller container. |
