Sit, Stay, Don't Bark! How to Train Your German Shepherd
HOW TO
Tags: German Shepherds, training, dog care, heirarchy, pets
German Shepherd's take much work to care for and maintain. The hardest part of this is training them. Dogs instinctively live within packs where one dog, the Alpha Dog, is the leader. All the other dogs follow the Alpha Dog's command. Here are some ways to train your Shepherd to see you and your family as the leaders of the pack. Do you have any tips?
| | Be consistent with your training |
| | Establish a heirarchy in your household |
| | Become the Alpha Dog of your household: show your German Shepherd that you are boss and that it follows your orders |
| | Your Shepherd lives by instinct: if he suspects that you are in control from the start, he will instinctively want to please you |
| | Make sure your family members shows their status. Even though there can only be one Alpha dog, you, your family members can become Beta Dogs, the leaders next-in-line to the Alpha dog. |

All very true! Luckily, Sheppards tend to strike a good balance between loyal companion and guardian and are, as you said, naturally eager to please. They have always been my favorite kind of dog. Comment by: dvoid03
