How To Remove Cooking Oil Splatter from Your Wooden Deck Without Ruining It
HOW TO
Tags: Oil Spills, Wooden Deck Care, Wooden Deck Problems
Cooking got a little crazy one night and now you have an oil spill? No problem! Here is how you can remove cooking oil splatter from your wooden deck.
| 1. | Make sure that you know the name of the cooking oil that caused the problem and the deck surface that has been damaged. |
| 2. | Check with the manufacturer of that oil to see if there is a recommended solvent for removing it that will not damage the deck material it has defaced. |
| 3. | Check with the supplier of the deck material to see if there is agreement for the use of the solvent recommended by the cooking oil manufacturer. |
| 4. | If no experienced successful suggestions are available, try to remove it by absorption, using finely powdered, clay-based cat litter. Repeated applications may be necessary and mild heat may increase the speed and effectiveness of absorption. |
| 5. | If the area is exposed to the sunlight, or you can reflect some to it, see if nature will correct the problem. |
| 6. | If that fails, you should consider the application of a product like "Kilz 2®" or "Zinsser B-I-N®"as a sealer-primer and an appropriate oil resistant finishing color coat to hide the spot. |
