How to Write a Letter for Change of Address
HOW TO
Tags: Letter Writting, Change of Address, Moving
One thing to be sure of when making a move is that your mail will also be coming with you. Here is how you can write a change of address letter.
| 1. | Start by submitting an address change to the post office. This way you'll catch everything you forget to update. You can do it online at the US Postal Service website for $1 or get a form at your local post office for free. |
| 2. | Check your bills. Most credit cards and utility bills have a space to fill in the new address on the back of the invoice for your monthly bill. Often there is a checkbox on the front side -- don't forget to check it. |
| 3. | Look online. Many magazines will now let you update your address online. You'll need your subscription ID number from the label on one of your mailings. |
| 4. | Inform everyone. The easiest way to tell friends and family is probably a mass email. It's kind of impersonal but very efficient. |
| 5. | Be official. Sometimes you'll have to mail or fax a letter. This is true for many banks. The letter should read: "To Whom It May Concern: Please update my mailing address in your records." |
| 6. | Be sure to include your full name, account number, current address, and full new address. Be sure to sign the letter as well. |
