HOW TO Wiki List

Tags: Tango, Ballroom Dancing, Dance

A truely passionate dance derived from Argentina and Uruguay, the tango takes many forms. Below is how to dance the traditional tango.

1. Tango requires balance and the willingness to learn.
2. Understand the difference between Argentine Tango, ballroom tango, and American Tango. The recommended dancing is Argentine Tango because it is known worldwide.
3. If you decide on the real stuff, Argentine Tango, learn the difference between apilado, salon, fantasia/stage tango. Start with Salon Tango, it is more flexible than the others.
4. Find a teacher that focuses on dance technique and not on memorizing steps and patterns. The teacher should be able to dance both lead and follow so he/she can teach you both how to do it and how it feels for your partner.
5. Take group classes to find a good instructor and take private classes to really learn how to dance.
6. Attend Milongas or tango dance parties and give it a try.
