Out Wearing Your Welcome - How to Deal With Guests Who Stay To Long
HOW TO
Tags: Guests, Houseguests, Extended Stays, Guest Problems
Has your version of Cousin Eddie just announced that he'll be spending the next month with you? Here is how you can deal with guests that out wear their welcome.
| | Be sure that the guest is aware of how long you would like them to stay before they arrive. Setting up boundaries can be key to making sure you truly enjoy your guests. |
| | Remember to pay compliments and show your appreciation when appropriate. For example, if they help with the laundry or set the table each night be sure a simple "thank you" can really improve guest relations. |
| | Stick to your guns. Once you have set boundaries be sure to follow them. If a guest is supposed to leave nicely remind them of that while thanking them for their company. |
| | Prepare for the worst. Following through on the rules that you have already set can sometimes result in an angry guest. Just remember that it is your home and you need to fight for your happiness. |
| | After the guest has left have a nice day with your family to discuss what they learned from having a guest, what things they enjoyed, and any general thoughts. |
