When you two walked down the aisle and said "till death do us part" neither of you imagined what that day would be like. You have spent and shared so much of your life with your spouse. The feeling of "what next?" is a common one after such an event. Here is how you can move on after your spouse dies.

  • All your life you have had choices. This time of your life is no different. You can choose to spend your life in mourning or you can choose to live the rest of your life happily.

  • Remember that no one can take away your memories. Keep your memories safe within your heart and don't be afraid to remember all the good times that you had together.

  • You will not be forgetting your spouse by living your life. No matter where life takes you they will always be a part of it.

  • Try to get back to your "old self". Your spouse loved you most that way so don't be afraid to live again.

  • Now is the time to pursue the things that you have always wanted to do. Think about the things you have put off because of family obligations such as going back to school, or going on that European vacation.

  • Patience is key. Things will not be peaches and cream right away. It takes time to deal with and get over such a major loss. When happiness does come, don't fight it embrace it.

  • Pets can be a wonderful source of companionship after the loss of a spouse. Try adopting a dog or cat from your local shelter.

  • Volunteer work can be very rewarding and keep you busy. Keeping busy is a great way to help you to move on with your life. By volunteering you will also be making a difference in others lives and giving back to the community.

  • Lastly, change is something that has happened to you throughout your life. This is just another change you can do this and you will be happy again just stay positive.
