The February Gardener
Do's/Don'ts
Tags: garden, winter, perennials, bulbs, prune, fertilizer, daisies, lillies
Do you have that late winter urge to start your spring gardening? Here are some things that you can do to prepare your garden, and yourself, for springtime.
| | Get perennial plants and bulbs now if you want cut flowers this summer. |
| | Check your stored bulbs and throw away any that are soft and diseased |
| | Even if it's warm outside, don't remove your mulch just yet. Another cold front might come through and kill what you uncover |
| | Prune any deciduous trees you might have and remove any dead or dying parts |
| | Order seeds now, as they are cheaper in February than they will be in March or April |
| | Fertilize any fruit trees as soon as the frost melts but before they begin to blossom |
| | Prune these trees at around the same time |
| | Start your vegetable plants indoors about 6 weeks before you want to plant them |
| | Make sure that light, temperature, humidity, nutrients and moisture are all right in your house for optimal growth |
| | Get excited for springtime! |
