This is a mock draft of the top 10 picks for the 2007 NFL Draft. It is by Justin Dargahi of NFL Draft Blitz.
| | 1. Oakland Raiders - QB- JaMarcus Russell- LSU |
| | Analysis: Al Davis loves big league arms and there is none bigger than Russell's. Georgia Tech's Calvin Johnson and Wisconsin’s Joe Thomas are also under serious consideration. A trade down is always a possibility with the Raiders having so many needs. But look for them to take this Daunte Culpepper clone. |
| | 2. Detroit Lions - OT- Joe Thomas- Wisconsin |
| | Analysis: Detroit will seriously consider Adrian Peterson or a trade down if they are unable to get a bona fide RB in free agency. Head coach Rod Marinelli raved about AP last week. But after Thomas’ 40-yard dash time of 4.93 seconds, he is almost a lock to be a Lion. DB will also become a glaring need after they trade Dre Bly within the next two weeks. The Broncos are the early leaders in the clubhouse for the two-time pro bowler. I guess Matt Millen doesn't like having good players? |
| | 3. Cleveland Browns - RB- Adrian Peterson- Oklahoma |
| | Analysis: The Browns are in a good position and will be watching the Lions carefully. They would love to get their hands on Thomas or Peterson and will likely take whomever the Lions don’t. Brady Quinn could also get a look here as the Browns still aren't sold on Charlie Frye, but Peterson should be a great one and with Rueben Droughns wearing down, running back is a big need. |
| | 4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - WR- Calvin Johnson- Georgia Tech |
| | Analysis: A recent 4.35 time all but assured Johnson’s status as the elite prospect in the draft. Many believe he is the best WR prospect to come out in a decade. Now the Bucs must sit and pray that CJ doesn’t go to the Raiders. Joey Galloway already has grey hair and Michael Clayton is looking more and more like a bust so Johnson could step in right away and start. He is a freakish athlete with all the tools to dominate for years to come. The Bucs have more pressing needs but won’t be able to resist the temptation of CJ. |
| | 5. Arizona Cardinals - DE- Gaines Adams- Clemson |
| | Analysis: If Thomas somehow slips the Cardinals might set a record for quickest pick in NFL draft history. But he should be long gone so the Cards will look to the defensive line. Anderson, Gaines Adams and Alan Branch are all prime candidates but in the end they will go with the upside of Anderson. Look for the Cards to boost their terrible offensive line in free agency where re-signing mammoth Leonard Davis is a must. |
| | 6. Washington Redskins DE- Jamaal Anderson- Arkansas |
| | Analysis: The Skins are almost a lock to look to the defensive line for immediate help as they finished 27th against the run a year ago and set a record for fewest sacks in a season with 19. Though some think Michael Strahan will soon be a Redskin. I don’t buy it though. Also they are expected to sign London Fletcher when FA begins making the LB position a lesser need they can fill later in the draft. |
| | 7. Minnesota Vikings - WR- Ted Ginn Jr- Ohio State |
| | Analysis: The Vikes are in desperate need of a WR but would really prefer Calvin Johnson. Obviously CJ will go before the No. 7 pick so the Vikes are at a stalemate. Do they go for a bigger need like QB or DL or go for a WR like Ginn or Jarrett fearing that no big time WR will be still on the board in round 2? |
| | 8. Houston Texans - QB- Brady Quinn- Notre Dame |
| | Analysis: If the Browns pass on Peterson, the Texans might throw a parade. After last year's draft debacle of passing on Reggie Bush they won't make the same mistake again. However, there are rumblings they will try to trade Carr and then acquire Jake Plummer. If so they could groom Quinn under Plummer or another veteran. |
| | 9. Miami Dolphins - DT- Alan Branch- Michigan |
| | Analysis: If Branch does slip, logic suggests’ the Fins will nab him. He would start immediately and free up DE Jason Taylor even more to do what he does best, attack the QB. If Quinn slips he could definitely be the pick since a gimpy Culpepper is all they will have at the QB position after they release Joey Harrington later in the week. |
| | 10. Atlanta Falcons - S- LaRon Landry- LSU |
| | Analysis: This might be the easiest pick to predict in the entire draft as the Falcons are in desperate need of a big time safety and Landry fits the bill and is a top 10 lock after his 4.35 40-time at the combine. Landry will start from day one as Lawyer Milloy and Chris Crocker might of been the leagues worst safety duo last season. |
