The following celebrities have been banned from ‘Saturday Night Live’. For more information on each of these incidents you can go to Zimbo.com and Wikipedia.

  • Louise Lasser was the first host banned by the producers in July of 1976. Main reason: Personal problems made her virtually incoherent.
  •  
  • Charles Grodin, 1977. Main reason, clumsy performance.
  •  
  • Elvis Costello, 1997. Main reason: Played “Radio Radio”, a media protest song, against Lorn Michael’s objections. (Note: Later Elvis made up with Lorne and has appeared again several times on the show.)

  • Frank Zappa, 1978. Main reason: His sense of humor clashed with the cast.
  •  
  • Milton Berle, 1979. Main reason: Over acting.
  •  
  • Fear (the band), 1981. Main reason: Offensive songs.
  •  
  • Robert Blake, 1982. Main reason: Bad attitude, threw script in writer’s face.
  •  
  • Andy Kaufman, 1983. Main reason: Viewers voted him off the show by calling 1-900 number (Andy’s idea).
  •  
  • The Replacements, 1986. Main reason: Bad behavior, intoxication.
  •  
  • Steven Seagal, 1991. Main reason: Difficult to work with.
  •  
  • Sinéad O'Connor, 1992. Main reason: During a cappella version of song "War", took a picture of Pope John Paul II, ripped it up, and shouted, "Fight the real enemy!"

  • Cypress Hill, 1993. Main reason: DJ Muggs lit up a marijuana joint on-air and the band trashed their instruments after playing their second single "I Ain't Goin' Out Like That."
  •  
  • Martin Lawrence, 1994. Main reason: During opening, made comments about female genitalia.
  •  
  • Chevy Chase, 1997: Main reason: History of verbal abuse of the cast and crew during the week. (Has since appeared in cameo roles and retrospective shows.)
  •  
  • Adrien Brody, 2003: Main reason: Without any prior notice, Brody began rambling in a Jamaican accent for close to 45 seconds before finally introducing the musical act incorrectly, mispronouncing "Sean Paul" as "Sean John."
