The Most Ill-Advised Rock Star Rants
WORSTS
Tags: Music, Bryan Ferry, Noel Gallagher, David Bowie, rock stars
Many rock stars are well-known for being outspoken and opinionated. However, sometimes they step over the line of simply being candid and their words become questionable and offensive. Here's a list of some of the most foolish and inappropriate rock star statements.
| | David Bowie - In the 70s when Bowie was struggling with a drug addiction, he told Playboy magazine that Hitler was "one of the first rock stars" and that Britain was "ready for a fascist leader." |
| | Noel Gallagher - In 1996, Gallagher told The Observer that he hoped Damon Albarn, lead singer for Blur, would "catch AIDS and die." |
| | Nick Wire - In December 1992, Manic Street Preachers bassist, Nicky Wire, said onstage during a gig, "In this season of goodwill, let's pray that Michael Stipe goes the same way as Freddie Mercury pretty soon." |
| | Lee Ryan - British boy band Blue were filming a video in New York at the same time as the terrorist attack on 9/11. Lead singer, Lee Ryan, had this to say at this delicate time: "What about whales? Animals need saving. This New York thing is being blown out of proportion. Who gives a f**k about New York when elephants are being killed?” |
