Exam time is just around the corner for many of us college students. With one last intellectual push before summer is here, many of us need some great music to motivate and focus us. Here is the list of best artists/albums to study to. Is there someone else you prefer to cram to? Add 'em!
| | Mozart- A staple of the list. It might seem boring or pretentious, but studies have shown that the brain becomes more alert and more focused when listening to Mozart. Plus, once you're listening to it, you'll find it's not really boring at all. Classical music has the ability to effortlessly transform the mood. Try Symphonies 25, 26, 29, 35 and 40. |
| | Nick Drake "Pink Moon"- If you've never listened to Nick Drake before, you owe it to yourself anyway. This is the singer's last album before his mysterious death/possible suicide. But don't let the raw emotions fueling this album deter you; Drake's folk voice and acoustic guitar make for a sweeping mesh of melancholy and flair that is sure to set your mind free. This is music that makes you relax. |
| | Air- This french duo gets it right every time. Their music sounds just like their name... light and breezy as air. Their music ranges from strange to sexy without ever losing the timbre of the vocals or cosmic touch of the instruments. Pay close attention to albums "Moon Safari", "Talkie Walkie" and "Pocket Symphony". Their tunes will relax you; making you feel as if hitting the books is as easy as breathing air. |
| | Belle & Sebastien "If You're Feeling Sinister"- All of their albums are great, but I think this is the best one to study to by far. It's intricate, whimsical indie rock that ranges from fast to slow without disrupting the experience of listening. It feels like on collective piece, not just songs thrown together one one album. It also features stunning vocals, lyrics, and an inexplicably strange quality; a throwback to the avant garde of Led Zeppelin. |
| | "Once" Original Motion Picture Soundtrack- This album was just released in late May of 2007, and it sparkles with originality, whimsicality, and the cornucopia of emotions that accompany love and loss of love. The harmonies of Glen Hasard and Marketa Irglova are perfectly haunting while the acoustic guitar sets the scene. Don't let the fact that this is a folk musical throw you off; it's understated and intelligent folk rock that captivates even the most ADD studyers. |
