Going stargazing tonight? Here are some tips and things you need to make it the best experience possible:
| | a comfortable chair (but not too comfortable) |
| | a red light (flashlight with a red lens in it) |
| | sketch pad and pencils |
| | thermos of hot drink (Did I mention Earl Grey tea?) |
| | a warm clothes (even on summer nights, it can get a bit nippy) |
| | a star map (I like the map provided each month in ASTRONOMY magazine.) |
| | a compass |
| | if you live in or near a city, you'll need to travel to a rural location away from bright lights. |
| | for meteor showers in the early evening, begin by watching the horizon. As the night gets later, meteor showers tend to be seen higher up in the sky. |
