Are you getting ready to join (or draft) in a fantasy football league? Here is a list of tips on how to make your experience more fun and enjoyable.

  •
  • Hold your fantasy football draft at a nice location: If you are not participating in a fantasy football league online then hold your fantasy draft at a great location. Rent out a room in a nice restaurant to give your friends and fellow participants a real NFL feel. Buffalo Wild Wings is offering a great deal for fantasy football fans. If you hold your fantasy draft at their location (minimum of 8 people in league) they will give you $100 of free food, free fantasy football boards, draft sheet and magazine.
  •
  • Collect money day of the draft: A majority of leagues consisting of friends and co-workers have trouble collecting money for the league at the end of the season as people tend to forget or don't want to be put in the uncomfortable situation of asking for money. The best way to avoid this situation is to collect the money on draft day and dock participants draft picks if they don't pay.
  •
  • Give out money for 2nd and 3rd place: Many leagues (especially online) fall into the trap of the winner take all fantasy philosophy. The better and more rewarding approach is to award money to 2nd and 3rd place to add incentive to the those who may be out of the race for first.
  •
  • Hold a mid-season party before the trade deadline: This is a new and interesting feature that many leagues are incorporating. Similar to what MLB general managers do during winter meetings, a trade deadline party would get everyone in the same room talking about possible trades to help improve their fantasy football teams.
  •
  • Give out funny awards at the end: A good way to include everyone who didn't make the playoffs into the discussion is to give out funny awards at the end of the season: Awards could be the person who did the most transactions, worst draft choice, best trade, funniest team name. The awards give an added bonus to the fantasy football experience.
