Private Schools in Richmond, VA
INFORMATIVE User Created List

I have a little one new to the world of academia and in preparation for his education, I did a lot of research on schools and would like to post it here hopefully to help someone else.

1. Richmond Montessori School- This place is the GREATEST K-8 school I've ever seen. I toured it and they have done such a great job making a safe and engaging environment for kids that I can't say enough about them. And it helps that I'm a big fan of the Montessori Method. But the waiting list is brutal, so if it's a possibility you do well to get them into the preschool program.
2. Saint James Children's Center-This is also a Preschool-to School transitional place, but I had to mention it. My son is still there (because of the waiting list at RMS) and is doing very well in a kindergarten class that teaches him 1st grade curriculum. They have small class sizes, and love the children a great deal. They also specialize in helping special needs children. My son is not a special needs child, but I've always loved how they integrate and have the kids learn together. I think it's good for all of the children involved.
3. Grove Avenue Christian School- This is my second choice for K-8 education. They get a solid Christian foundation and have smaller class sizes and have dedicated instructors. The facility is nice and very kid friendly. My only drawback with this school was lack of afterschool care and the concern that there might not be enough funds for some of the extracurricular that I'd like to see my child have access too on a regular basis.
4. Luther Memorial- My pastor turned me on to this school, because this is where his daughter spent her early education years. Another parochial school, Luther Memorial has a wonderful reputation and had great reviews from all of those that I know who have either used the school or their summer program. The only reason it wasn't higher on my personal list is location.
