History in the Making - Vacation Spots: Philadelphia, PA

Here are some great reasons to check out Philadelphia with your next vacation time
| | The History! (duh) -There are just so many places! Independence Hall/Independence National Historical Park, the Liberty Bell (shame you can't touch it anymore, though), the U.S. Mint, the Philadelphia Free Public Library, The Ben Franklin House (my personal favorite), and even the Betsy Ross House for some fact or fiction! |
| | Museums -And boy are there a lot of 'em: from the Philadelphia Museum of Art, to the Rodin Museum (the only other one in the world is in Paris!), to the Mutter Museum (for people who enjoy medical - and gory - history) and the Franklin Institute (the GINORMOUS heart you can walk through, the planetarium and the omnivores theater are fantastic!). |
| | Fairmount Park - On a beautiful day, Fairmount Park is such a gem. Alongside the Schuylkill River, Fairmount Park has sculptures, beautiful historic boathouses, and the waterworks building. Crew teams regularly practice on the river ('cept during the winter months). |
| | South Street - Walk down South Street and you'll hit vintage vinyl (records and fetish wear!) shops, old bookstores, and some great food. I love Maoz Falafel (it's a worldwide chain, but its only American establishment is on South Street in Philly!) and Jim's Steaks... and speaking of cheesesteaks... |
| | FOOOOD - Good grief, so many delicious eateries and restaurants. For a cheesesteak, you can't go wrong witn Gino's or Pat's. Stephen Starr is pretty much the restaurant King of Philadelphia. He's produced Tangerine, Buddakan, Cuba Libre (EXCELLENT mojitos)... and then there are others 'round town like the Fountain Restaurant at the Four Seasons Hotel and Le Bec-Fin. |
