Oddities of West Virginia
INFORMATIVE
Tags: WV, West Virigina, oddities, attractions, travel
West Virginia is a beautiful state, but nestled back in its hills are some things you would never expect to find. This is just a small sampling
| | The Insane Mummies of Philipi: In the small town of Philip, WV there are two mummies on display in the bahroom of the Barber County Historical Museum. The mummies were created by a local farmer and amatueur scientists who bought the female cadavers from the West Virginia Hospital for the Insane in 1888. He embalmed them with his own potion in an attempt to unlock the secrets of the Egyptians and they remain mummified to this day. |
| | The Blue Lake: In Chester, WV is a pretty good size lake. The water is a bright, neon blue and the sand at the bottom is pure white. Which almost sounds like an ideal beach in the Bahamas. As beautiful as it sounds however, there is a darker side. Nothing in this lake is alive. There are no fish or animals of anykind in, or even near, the lake. All the trees and plants are also dead. |
| | Big White Teddy Bear on Cliff: This one is in Hinton, WV and is exactly what it sounds like. It is a large white teddy bear perchd on the edge of a cliff. Weird. |
| | Prabhupada's Palace of Gold and City of God - New Vrindaban, West Virginia: This one is simply amazing and one almost feels as if they have been transported to Indian when visiting. Words simply can not do this place justice. Google it, or better yet visit, and see for yourself. |
| | Mothman Museum: Located in Point Pleasant (ground zero for Mothman phenomena and home to the fated Silver Bridge collapse). The museum has everything from movie props to documentaiton of the original sightings in the sixties. Also, there is a media room with over 6 hours of documentaries on our winged friend as well as a huge mothman statue. |
